How UK embassy bogged down Somalia’s inter-clan fighting.

Mogadishu (RBC) The UK embassy’s special representative to Somalia Matt Baugh, has unfortunately swamped into the Somalia’s inter-clan fighting at the Buhoodle and Kalshale area of Sool region where the Somaliland’s secessionist forces battling against local residents from Buhoodle district.

A letter which Matt Baugh sent to the Somali embassy in Nairobi seemed to be support to inflame the long-term crisis and civil war between the Somali clans.  The letter which dated February 21, Mr. Matt Baugh assured his willing to set the base Somaliland’s aggressive war against Buhoodle residents in which Somalaliland authorities named “anti terrorist fighting”.

The signed letter that RBC Radio obtained copies of it also noted that UK government’s yearly support to Somaliland could be included providing military training and replacement of weapons. But what many Somali could seen rather strange that UK is pouring into Somalia’s chaos and UK’s support to Somalia’s north separatist region (known as Somaliland) could endanger the live of thousand civilians living in Sool, Sanaag and Cayn regions [SSC].

Sool region is disputed between Somaliland, a self-declared independent republic that is internationally recognized as an autonamous region of Somalia and Puntland region of northeastern Somalia.

Somalia is under UN arms embargo since 1992 when civil war broke the whole nation and any military support into the country could infringe upon the sanction and violate the international laws.

UK urges that its support towards Somaliland aimed to strength the peace and stability of some part of Somalia republic, but has undermined the own desire of SSC’s people whose goal is creation of its own regional administration under Sool, Sanaag and Cayn regions.

SSC contains clans originally from Dhulbahante of Darod’s sub-clan while Somaliland is also a name given to Isak clans and if such weapon support given it will only increase inter-clan dispute which many Somalis believe is the major factor of nation’s collapse in 1992.

It is still unclear, whether Somalia’s ambassador to Kenya Mohamed Ali Nur really gave the expected reply to UK’s special representative to Somalia. RBC Radio correspondent has revealed that the letter did not address to Somalia’s ministry of foreign affairs where the exact direction of the letter was.!
