LONDON—A bulk carrier ship was hijacked Thursday some 400 miles (350 nautical miles) southeast of Salalah, Oman, in the Indian Ocean, the European Union Naval Force Somalia, or EU Navfor, said.

The Italian flagged and owned vessel MV Rosalia D’Amato was hijacked April 21 en route to Bandar Imam Khomeini in Iran from the Brazilian port of Paranagua.

In routine communication with the vessel Thursday, coalition warships were told: “Pirates onboard stay away,” EU Navfor said in a statement.

No further information regarding the vessel and its crew of 21, which included Italians and Filipinos, has been reported.

The general cargo vessel was registered with the Maritime Security Center and was reporting to the U.K. Maritime Trade operations office.
