Anniversary “10 Years 1325 – Oppurtunities and Limits

In 2010, UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security is celebrating its 10th anniversary. The Resolution, which was unanimously adopted by the UN Security Council in 2000, pursues three main objectives: an increased participation of women in peace processes, the prevention of and protection from gender-based violence against women and girls, and the adoption of a gender perspective in all projects and programmes of peace promotion.

No document has so strongly marked the international debate on gender and peace promotion in political and academic circles as has Resolution 1325. The 10-year anniversary provides an opportunity to cast a critical glance at progress made to date, and to discuss the future challenges associated with Resolution 1325.

Furthermore, the event will provide the framework for launching a new edition of the National Action Plan (NAP) for the implementation of Resolution 1325. The NAP, first adopted in 2007, defines the parameters for applying the Resolution to Swiss civil and military peace policy development.
