On 14 August 1948, shortly after India achieved independence, Switzerland was the first country with whom India signed a friendship treaty. A series of events and projects have been planned for next year to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the signing of the treaty.
Switzerland has been present in India with a programme on cooperation and development since 1961. This programme will be restructured by 2010 and oriented towards a cooperation primarily concerned with the fields of energy and climate, science and technology.
